Student achievement in academic and nonacademic competitions is shaped not only by individual capability but also by external support, one form of which is reward. This study aims to examine the effect of reward on the achievement motivation of Airlangga University students participating in academic and nonacademic competitions. The study employed a quantitative associative approach with a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire administered to 86 students who had participated or were currently participating in academic and/or nonacademic competitions and were analyzed using simple linear regression. The results show that reward has a significant effect on achievement motivation (t = 3.323; p = 0.001), with R = 0.341 and R² = 0.116. Reward explains 11.6% of the variance in achievement motivation, while the remaining 88.4% is explained by factors outside the research model. These findings indicate that reward is one of the external factors associated with students’ achievement motivation in competitive settings.
